Video Games Europe Board elects Olaf Coenen, Electronic Arts as its new Chair

At its Board meeting in Berlin on 14 November 2018, the Video Games Europe Board elected its new Chair, Olaf Coenen, Vice President International Publishing for Europe, Latin America and Asia at Electronic Arts.

Olaf Coenen takes over from Philip Earl,  Executive Vice President international at Activision Blizzard.

Simon Little, Video Games Europe Managing Director said “I would like to thank Philip for his strong contribution to Video Games Europe during his Chairmanship, reflecting the dynamic development of the industry. We are looking forward to continuing on this path with Olaf. Olaf’s longstanding experience in the industry and his European and international perspective will further support our work in building awareness and understanding of video games and their value-added benefit to Europe’s digital strategy”.

 

Olaf Coenen said: “ I am delighted to represent the European video games industry at a moment where the sector is enjoying an unprecedent growth, in particular in Europe and where our innovation capacity is more than ever spamming over to other sectors in society. Europe has outstanding talent and must remain a creative hub for a growing and innovation driven sector like ours ”.

In Berlin the Video Games Europe Board enjoyed a fruitful discussion with the German Federal Minister of Digitisation, Dorothee Bär, on important regulatory proposals impacting the sector such as the ePrivacy Regulation, the Digital Content Directive and the Copyright Directive.
