Data used in the Video Games Europe-EGDF Key Facts publication is provided by IPSOS and commissioned by Video Games Europe (VGE). It is extracted from GamesTrack, Games Sales Data (GSD) and the EGDF-VGE video games industry insights report.

Games Sales Data (GSD) is the first video games industry chart to include data on both retail and digital sales. Data outlined in this report is gathered from Austria, Belgium, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain and Sweden.

GameTrack collects data along three key metrics: Volume – the number of games being acquired (both paid and free), Value – the amount of money being spent on games, Demographics – who play games and how do people play games. Each metric breaks down the total market by specific devices and type of games. Data is collected via online polling in France, Italy, Germany, Spain and UK. 12,000 individuals, between the age of six and 64 are polled per year and per country. Totaling to 60,000 individuals are polled per year. There is also an annual fact-to-face survey of 1,000 people per country which is nationally representative (in terms of age, etc.) This final step is used to calibrate the online data.
