2023 All About Video Games – European Key Facts
In collaboration with European Games Developer Federation (EGDF), Video Games Europe (VGE) prepared the 2023 Key Facts about Europe's video games sector - focusing on culture, creativity and technology.
The publication covers various aspects of the video games industry in Europe, including:
- Europe's Video Game Players
- 53% of the population aged 6-64 years old plays video games.
- 75% of video game players are 18 years or older (up to 64 years old).
- 31 is the average age of a video game player in Europe.
- The number of video game players in Europe is 124.4 million (in 5 major European markets).
- Europe's Industry
- The revenue generated by the video games industry in 2023, in five key markets, is €25.7 billions (a steady 5% growth from 2022).
- The video games industry employed 114,400 people in Europe in 2023.
- 24.4% of the video games industry workforce are women.
- The video games industry employs people in roles including: technology, design, design, image & sound, production, publishing, and others - a complex mix of talent and skilled professionals.
- Responsible Gameplay
- PEGI, the pan-European video game age rating system, celebrated 20 years in 2023.
- It is used in 40 European countries, has 2,600 member companies, classified 40,000 games and millions of apps.
- 79% of parents with children that play video games are aware of the PEGI age rating labels, and 76% of them use the PEGI label to make an informed decision when considering buying a video games for their children.
