Today the video games sector in Belgium launched an awareness campaign directed towards parents on safe and responsible gameplay

22/11/2018

The campaign Speel het Slim / Jouez Malin was launched in the presence of the Minister of Digital Agenda Alexander De Croo.

Video games have become an integral part of the life of our children. The internet has become an important playground, bringing a new set of challenges. New research results of the Video Games Europe’s Belgian member, the Belgian Entertainment Association, together with WALGA and FLEGA presented today to the press new research results which indicate that most parents:

  • have already played a game together with their kids
  • have rules about game time or what games can be played and 40% of them often have discussions around the subject
  • know about parental controls but only 25% are making use of them
  • know more or less what their kids are doing, more than 60% would like to be better informed on video games and on how to use parental control tools

The survey included 600 parents with gaming children between 8 and 16, and led to the initiative  Speel het Slim (in Dutch) and Jouez Malin (in French), offering advice and tips to parents on how to approach video games and how to engage with their children.

The results were unveiled by ambassadors Véronique De Kock and Sandrine Corman at the press conference this morning.

The website explains how to install parental controls and provides helpful information on the latest popular games. It also informs on PEGI ratings and contains useful tips and video testimonies about how to successfully integrate video games in our everyday lives.
