22/04/2020

The newly-published market and consumer report on the Italian video games market by IIDEA (Italian Interactive Digital Entertainment Association) in collaboration with Video Games Europe and using data from GSD (Games Sales Data), GameTrack and AppAnnie reveals market growth of +1.7% in 2019 and a 13.5% year on year growth of digital software.

This is a detailed report on the video games market, the profile and playing behaviour of its players and the top selling games in Italy, including the following data:

  • 1.787m Euros turnover in 2019
  • 39% of the Italian population aged 6-64 (17m people) play video games
  • 53% of video game players are male
  • 47% of video game players are female
  • Mobile devices are the most popular platform followed by PCs and home consoles

“Italy’s market performance in 2019 was good but it is not an anomaly - all European markets monitored by GameTrack showed an increase. This reflects the diversification of today’s video game industry which offers people multiple ways to enjoy games irrespective of the amount of time or technology they have at their disposal or their current location."

Simon Little, CEO of Video Games Europe

“Dynamism is the main feature of the video games industry, which can reinvent itself every year thanks to its extraordinary ability to confront new technological challenges and to cross the boundaries of creativity. Waiting for the new generation cycle to come in 2020, the video game, whether a pastime, a job or a passion, continues to become more accessible and consolidate its position as a form of entertainment, involving a growing and diversified number of players in Italy, as in the rest of the world.

We invite you to follow developments in the sector with us in the coming months."

Marco Saletta, IIDEA Chairman

Video Games Europe’s annual Key Facts document including GameTrack data for France, Germany, Italy, Spain and the UK will be published shortly.
